Description
The IRIS Hybrid system is designed for quantitative measurement of glucose concentration in capillary whole blood.
Blood glucose testing with the IRIS Hybrid device is based on measuring the electric current caused by the reaction of glucose with reagents on the test strip electrode.
The blood sample is drawn into the tip of the test strip by capillary action. The glucose in the sample reacts with the enzyme and the mediator.
Electrons are generated, producing a current that is directly proportional to the glucose concentration in the sample. After the reaction process, the glucose concentration in the sample is displayed.
The instrument is calibrated to display plasma concentration results.

How to use
Set the audio function
Press the central button when the "SOUNDS" row is selected to choose ON or OFF. If OFF is selected, the acoustic function is disabled. If ON is selected, the acoustic function is enabled.
Set the time zone
Use the left and right arrows to select the "TIME" row in the settings menu.
Press the central button when the "TIME" row is selected to set the time zone. On the next screen, select the desired time zone relative to GMT using the right and left arrows, then select OK by pressing the central button to confirm your choice.
Perform a test
Obtain all necessary materials before starting the test. To perform the test, you need to prepare IRIS Evo test strips and the lancing device with its IRIS lancets.
Preparation of test strips
1. Wash and dry your hands before the test.
2. Remove a test strip from the vial. Close the vial cap carefully immediately after removing the test strip.
Note: check the expiration date of the test strips. Do not use expired test strips.
3. Insert the test strip into the instrument in the direction of the arrows. The meter turns on after an audible signal (if the SOUND function is set to ON, otherwise the meter turns on without making any sound).
4. The glucometer checks if the inserted strip is suitable (not previously used and of the IRIS Evo test strip type) immediately after which the message "APPLY BLOOD" appears on the display, indicating that the instrument is ready for the test. If the strip is not suitable, the glucometer signals this error on the display with a code.
5. Based on the time, the meter automatically selects the time of day the test is being performed and displays this choice on the display. If you wish to change this automatic selection, press the central button and choose from the following options: breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner, and night.
6. Based on the time, the meter automatically selects whether the test is being performed before or after a meal and displays this choice on the display. If you wish to change this automatic selection, press the left arrow button and choose between PRE-prandial and POST-prandial measurement.
7. If the meter is used by a "guest" user different from the usual user benefiting from the tele-diabetology service, to prevent the latter's measurements from getting confused and consequently altering the statistics, the "guest" function is available. To activate it, simply press the right arrow button.
Note: all measurements taken using "guest" mode will not be stored in the meter's diary, so they will not alter the user's statistics in any way.

Preparation of the lancing device
To obtain a blood sample from the fingertip, adjust the penetration depth to reduce pain.
1. Unscrew the cap of the lancing device. Insert a sterile lancet into the lancing device and push it until the lancet stops completely in the device.
2. Hold the lancet firmly in the lancing device and twist the lancet's safety tab, then pull the safety tab off the lancet. Keep the safety tab for later disposal of the used lancet.
3. Carefully screw the cap onto the lancing device. Avoid contact with the exposed needle. Make sure the cap is fully screwed onto the device.
4. Adjust the penetration depth by rotating the cap of the lancing device. There are a total of 5 penetration depth settings. To reduce pain, use the lowest setting to produce an adequate blood drop.
Adjustment:
- 0 and 1 for delicate skin;
- 2 and 3 for normal skin;
- 4 and 5 for calloused or thick skin.
Note: greater pressure of the lancing device on the finger also increases the puncture depth.
Obtain a blood drop and perform the test
1. Pull back the end to prime the lancing device. The device will click; the release button changes color to orange to indicate that the lancing device is now primed and ready to obtain a blood drop.
2. Press the lancing device as shown in the image. Push the release button to prick the fingertip. You should feel a click when the lancing device activates.
3. Gently massage the finger from base to tip to obtain the desired blood volume. Avoid touching the blood drop. To reduce pain, it is recommended to prick the side of the fingertip. Perform the test immediately after obtaining the necessary amount of blood.
4. Immediately touch the tip of the test strip to the blood drop. Blood will be drawn into the test strip through the tip. Make sure the test strip channel is completely filled. Keep the tip of the test strip in contact with the blood drop until the meter starts the countdown. If the blood sample is not suitable (insufficient or incorrect), the glucometer signals this error on the display with a code.
Note: if the blood sample does not fill the test strip channel, do not add a second drop. Discard the used test strip and retest using a new test strip.
5. The meter starts a 5-second countdown, after which the test result is available. The meter displays the result with a color code.
6. A few moments later, the meter displays the therapeutic message related to the range in which the blood glucose value falls.

Expected results
Blood glucose values vary depending on food intake, medication dosages, health, stress, or physical exercise. It is ideal to check blood glucose levels and compare them to normal results (for non-diabetic patients).
CAUTION
- If the blood glucose reading is below 52 mg/dL or if LO (less than 10 mg/dL) is displayed on the meter, contact your doctor as soon as possible.
- If the test result is above 250 mg/dL or if HI (greater than 600 mg/dL) is displayed on the meter, contact your doctor as soon as possible.
- Do not change medication therapy based on the test result performed with IRIS Hybrid before consulting your doctor.
Questionable or inconsistent results
If your blood glucose result does not match how you feel:
- check the expiration date of the test strips used. Make sure the test strip vial has not been open for more than 6 months;
- confirm that the temperature at which the test is being performed is between 5 and 45 °C (41-113 °F);
- make sure the test strip vial has been closed correctly; - make sure the test strips have been stored in a cool, dry place;
- make sure the test strip was used immediately after removing it from the vial;
- make sure you have followed the testing procedure correctly;
- perform a test using a control solution.
After verifying all the conditions listed above, repeat the test with a new test strip.

Removal of used sterile lancet Unscrew the lancing device cap. Place the lancet's safety tab on a flat, hard surface; carefully insert the lancet needle into the safety tab.
Press the release button to ensure the lancing device is discharged. Slide the eject button forward to eject the used lancet. Replace the lancing device cap on it.
CAUTION
- Do not use the lancet if the safety tab is missing or loose when removing the lancet from the packaging.
- Do not use the lancet if the needle is bent.
- Be careful when the needle is exposed.
- Never share lancets or the lancing device with other people to prevent infections.
- To reduce the risk of infection, always use a new sterile lancet. Do not reuse lancets.
- Avoid contaminating the lancing device or lancets with lotions, oils, or powder.

Precautions
- The meter is preset to display blood glucose concentration in milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL). This unit of measurement cannot be adjusted.
- Do not insert water or other liquids into the meter.
- Keep the test strip slot clean.
- Keep the meter dry and avoid exposing it to extreme temperatures or humidity. Do not leave it in the car.
- Do not drop the instrument or get it wet. If the instrument is dropped or gets wet, check the instrument by performing a quality control test. If the instrument is wet, dry it before performing the quality control test. For instructions, refer to the "Testing with control solution" section.
- Do not disassemble the instrument. If the instrument is disassembled, the warranty is void.
- Keep the meter and all associated parts out of the reach of children.
- Always keep test strips in their original vial. Close the vial immediately after removing the test strip.
- Do not use the instrument in the presence of or while using liquids.
- Wash and dry your hands before and after the test.
- Test strips and lancets are single-use.
- Do not drop blood directly onto the flat surface of the test strip.
- Check the expiration dates on the test strip vial and on the control solution packaging. Do not use expired test strips and control solutions.
- Use only IRIS Evo test strips with the IRIS Hybrid system.
- Use only IRIS Evo control solutions with the IRIS Hybrid system.
- For self-testing, consult your doctor or diabetologist before making any changes to your medication, diet, or activity routine.
- If the system is used in a manner not specified by the manufacturer, the protection provided by the system may be impaired.
