The argille sono sedimenti formati from piccolissime particelle composte principalmente from Silicio ma also rich of Calcium, Iron, Magnesium ed oligoelementi, generatesi in zone inondate dall'acqua in tempi remoti. The argille of color green sono tra the più antiche sul piano evolutivo e sono più attive of quelle rosse (Fe trivalente-sature), perché sono insature (Fe bivalente).
